Eco-Friendly Glitter from Wish Upon A Sparkle
We’re always listening to our customers, and eco-friendly glitter is something that we’ve noticed a lot of people are asking for. Your love of glitter shouldn’t cost the earth, and we believe everyone should be able to enjoy getting glittered up without worrying about the environmental impact.
Our main range of glitter is already quite environmentally friendly because it’s larger than some other brands of glitter available. This means that most of it will be caught by water filtration systems and this stops it ending up in our lakes, rivers and oceans. This is a great place to start, but we knew there was more we could do.
Introducing our new range of biodegradable glitter…
We’re very excited to launch our new range of environmentally conscious, vegan and cruelty free glitter. The environmental impact of our main range of glitter is small, but for some people, this is still too high.
Our biodegrabable glitter is just as shimmery and sparkly as our main range of glitter, but it’s created from biodegradable cellulose, which breaks down naturally in the environment.
What is it made from?
Our bio glitter is primarily made of cellulose, which is found in the cell walls of plants. There are also other non-toxic ingredients which coat the cellulose and make it shiny. The best part about using cellulose-based glitter instead of plastic-based glitter is that it is completely compostable.
Will it break down in the jar?
No, definitely not! Biodegradable glitter is very stable when stored in its pot. It’s only when it gets out into the environment that it will break down. This is because the cellulose structure needs microorganisms to be able to break down. No need to worry about your eco friendly glitter going bad in the pot!
Is Wish Upon A Sparkle eco glitter safe?
Absolutely! Our glitter passes all of the required testing include Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 [CLP] and European Directive 67/548/EEC. It’s non-toxic, non-flammable, and isn’t known to cause any irritation.
What about the metal content?
Some people worry about the aluminium content of glitter, but our environmentally friendly glitter contains just 0.1% aluminium. This is a negligible amount of aluminium and is only used to make the glitter sparkle. Using a hair gel or lip balm to apply your glitter is enough to protect your skin from contact. If you regularly come into contact with glitter and are concerned, we would recommend wearing gloves to apply it, although this is more about personal preference than safety.
Can I eat it?
Although it’s vegan and cruelty-free, this means it hasn’t been tested on animals. If you accidentally ingest some bio glitter, this shouldn’t pose a health risk. However, we wouldn’t recommend eating it. There are plenty of edible glitters on the market, so we’d recommend just using this for your face, hair and body.
